The exhibition

The privilege of art. Parma for Correggio.

Every city has its artistic standard bearers and Parma after Parmigianino gives us, in the same period, Correggio. Named after his birthplace, he signed with the name Antonius Laetus. It is he to whom the exhibition is dedicated, an exhibition until now considered impossible to stage, bringing to the attention of the international public a very special genius who has been compared to the other great artists: from Leonardo to Raffaello and from Michelangelo to Titian, but remaining, as many other geniuses, an original, independent artistic personality, a spirit both serious and rebellious. Parma is the city that gave him hospitality for the longest period and allowed him to reveal, in the most ample and mature forms, his ability as interpreter of altarpieces and generous holy spaces. To an artist such a tribute had never been given until now; it will be a unique occasion to see united in one place the entire portable collection in such close proximity. All of this in the places that saw him as a major player and gave him fame among the Renaissance geniuses. The places where an artist lives aren’t, in fact, a secondary aspect but are intrinsic with the content of his paintings.
